Judith Nelson holds a BFA from the
Rhode Island School of Design with a
concentration in fine arts painting, as well as
her Master’s degree in Education from
Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
She also has an undergraduate degree in Illustration
from Syracuse University in New York.

Ms. Nelson has worked both in-house and as a freelance
artist, concentrating her time now in the freelance world.
Her experience includes greeting card illustration, children’s books, full color toy illustration for packaging, presentation art, character development, and new product concept work, as well as line art. Most of her work in the toy market has focused mainly on licensed characters, with clients including Hasbro, Milton Bradley, Mattel, Fisher-Price, Walt Disney, Hallmark, Parker Brothers, Tyco, Tonka, and Playskool.

Additionally, she has worked as assistant art director under Marc Brown for the Arthur License for such publishers as Random House, Little Brown, Nestle, Hallmark, Advance Publishers, Paradise Press, and Redan Publishing. Independent from her participation in the creation of over 50 Arthur books, she has also done children's book illustration for Western Publishing, Didax, Morgan Cain, Unicef, and McGraw Hill.

While conventionally trained, Ms. Nelson now works primarily digitally, with expertise in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, among others.

She works from her Mac in the beautiful Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts and from the base of the Catalina Mountains in Tucson, Arizona.
